1. GNOME 43

The desktop environment is updated to GNOME 43.

Some key features of GNOME 43 are :

  • A faster random number generator (entropy extractor switched from SHA1 to BLAKE2s).

Ubuntu 22.10 has the new futex_waitv() syscall enabled, which will improve the gamer tools like wine, proton, etc.

Ubuntu 22.10 will support WebP image format natively. It is a modern image format that provides superior lossless and lossy compression for images.

WebP lossless images are 26% smaller in size compared to PNGs. WebP lossy images are 25-34% smaller than comparable JPEG images at equivalent SSIM quality index
